Don’t Worry— Hacking Can Be Ethical

For my first blog post, I need to clarify a few things.

First of all, for those of you who don’t have any experience in cybersecurity, it might be strange to hear me call myself an “aspiring hacker.”

But there’s a difference between black hat hackers and white hat hackers. While black hat hackers hack for malicious purposes, white hat hackers (i.e. ethical hackers) hack for a good cause.

Cybersecurity professionals generally help improve the security of organizations or websites through penetration testing (pen testing). By trying to hack into servers, websites, and more, they can shore up any vulnerabilities that could have otherwise been exploited by someone with malicious intent.

Of course, I don’t have my whole future planned out yet, and I don’t want to limit myself by only learning about one topic. I’m interested in almost everything related to STEM, so this blog won’t exclusively focus on hacking/cybersecurity techniques. Instead, I plan to write about whatever catches my interest next, and I hope you all decide to join me and have fun following along.
